ICFG Subgroups

The work of the ICFG happens in its subgroups. They bring together members from industry and academia to follow new technological developments in cold forging, work out recommendations for specific technological problems, and develop common standards for the cold forging community.

New subgroups are established by the Advisory Board, which may also define their working topics and dissolve a subgroup once its work is complete. Any member who sees a topic worth pursuing collectively is welcome to propose one

How to submit a proposal for a new Subgroup

Proposals are submitted in writing by e-mail to the ICFG Secretary (diego.alba@ifu.uni-stuttgart.de) and the ICFG Chairman. There is no formal template, but a proposal is easiest to discuss when it states the technical topic and why it matters now, what the subgroup would aim to deliver, and which members have already expressed interest.

Proposals can be sent at any time and are discussed at the Advisory Board meetings held each February and September. The proposer is informed of the outcome.

How a Subgroup works

Each subgroup elects a chairman and a deputy, who coordinate its activities in consultation with the Advisory Board. Members may join a subgroup at any time by registering in writing, and subgroups may invite guests, including non-members, where this benefits the work.

Every subgroup reports on its progress at the annual Plenary Meeting and provides the minutes of its meetings to the ICFG Secretary. After a working period of three to five years, the results are recorded in an ICFG document in English and made available to all members free of charge.
